If you seek windows 98 registry cleanup, there are numerous methods to do so. Either you can fix windows registry manually or you can use a piece of reliable registry cleanup software to serve your purpose.
Methods Employed for Windows 98 Registry Cleanup
•	Manually cleaning registry: This is a traditional method to search for redundant files and then deleting them. This involves identifying redundant files, which is quite a big task for you, being a layman. This involves high risk of deletion of important files if you mistakenly categorize them as junk files. Because of the high risk and time involved in this process, which can even lead to a computer crash, it is a better option to go for registry cleanup software.
•	Using software to clean registry: This method of cleaning registry uses a piece of software to fix the registry of your computer. The software automatically identifies and removes unwanted and redundant files. Though there is risk involved in this process, yet that is minimal compared to cleaning registry manually.
Windows Registry Backup
•	It is important to create a registry backup in order to protect yourself from losing important information and files if your system crashes due to registry cleanup error.
•	It is important to ensure that the registry cleanup software you choose is equipped with an automatic backup feature.
•	It is important to manually create a backup if your registry cleanup software does not offer automatic backup.
•	It is important that the software brand you choose is capable enough to execute its intended job by performing a thorough scan and eliminating all issues and fixing the errors.
Advantages of Windows 98 Registry Cleanup
Cleaning windows registry will
•	provide free space for your control panel
•	increase the speed of load time
•	increase the internet browser speed
•	delete cookies in your history tab
•	fix adware
Windows registry is a repertoire of the system’s configuration information and plays an important role in maintaining the health of your system. Any minor change in the registry during windows 98 registry cleanup can be fatal for your computer. Thus ensure that you take every precaution while fixing your windows 98 registry.

If windows vista is your operating system, better you keep yourself updated with the windows vista registry repair process. With registry being the most essential component of a computer system, any minor problem can play havoc with it, thus bringing your system to a halt. It is, therefore, essential to learn vista registry fix processes to stay clear of any registry problems.

What is Windows Registry

Registry is the database of your system’s configuration information and all other applications stored and running on it. To function properly, the operating system relies on windows registry. The registry expands as you use your Vista PC. As you keep installing and uninstalling various applications, every time, some irrelevant entries are left behind in the registry. In the process, the registry might become corrupt or slow as more redundant entries keep accumulating.

How to Do Windows Registry Repair

Download a windows registry scan.

Run the registry scan.

Identify useless, irrelevant entries in the registry.

Clean the registry using a reliable vista registry fix tool, such as registry cleaner or scan.

Run a registry scan periodically to ensure good health of your PC.

How Vista Registry Repair Helps

Popular tools, such as vista registry repair wizard, help ensure that every corrupt program is removed. The vista registry fix wizard:

scans and fixes system registry errors;

creates full backup of the whole windows registry;

cleans up registry;

defrags registry to optimize your PC for improved performance;

tracks Eraser feature as a measure to protect privacy;

improves system performance;

removes Trojan;

monitors and alerts even minutest of changes in your system registry;

helps you manage your startup and internet explorer BHO items with ease; and

helps effectively control the windows and explorer programs.

Windows vista registry fix wizard is the most effective tool to keep your computer system free from redundant and obsolete registry errors. A clean registry will improve performance of your computer. Thus a vista registry repair wizard holds prime importance in ensuring your PC’s good health.

Why Does My Computer Keep Crashing and Freezing?

Almost everyone who has ever owned a computer can say that they have experienced their computers slowing down and eventually crash and freeze. Computer technicians can give several reasons to answer the question of most clients: why does my computer keep crashing and freezing?

1. Your hard drive may be full.

Your hard drive stores must be not to full to accommodate file and program functions that will allow your computer to function properly. If it is full of data, chances are there might not to be enough room for your computer to process information related to programs and files. You need to delete and clean-up your drive of unused programs and files to avoid crashing and freezing.

2. Your computer’s hard drive might be fragmented.

Whenever programs and files are loaded, operated and deleted, your hard drive “separates” into sectors. This can make your computer function slower. A heavily fragmented drive can crash and freeze whenever a file or program is loaded. Windows has its own defragmenter utility that you can use to defragment your hard drive to solve this problem.

3. Your registry might be corrupted.

This is one of the most frequent answers that computer technicians give to the question “why does my computer keep crashing and freezing?” The registry is the sector in your computer where it keeps all records of program settings and data that your computer needs to function well. If a program or file fails to load, then it might mean that your registry is corrupted. Your registry needs to repaired and cleaned. A good registry cleaner and repair program can be called to act on computers that are freezing and crashing due to registry errors.

4. Your computer might be host to viruses and other unwelcome guests.

Your computer might be crashing and freezing due to the presence of a virus, a Trojan horse or a spyware. These programs hide deep in your system, creating errors and messing with how your computer runs programs and opens files. A good virus cleaner program is needed to take out viruses from your computer, while spyware and malware can be cleaned using spyware sweepers. There are some anti-virus programs that have their own specialized spyware units.

The most frequent computer problem encountered by many users is the change in their computer. Many users find that they cannot run multiple programs let alone one program without causing their computer to crash.

Even typing and clicking around has become difficult because the computer just won’t cooperate. What could be the answer to this question: “why is my computer so slow?”

1.	Viruses and spyware

Your computer’s performance might be compromised by viruses, malware and spyware that might have infected your PC. If viruses and spyware are present, then your computer’s problem can be easily addressed using an anti-virus program.

Good anti-virus programs should be able to make a sweep and clean out viruses and/or spyware (if the anti-virus has an anti-spyware utility as well). Therefore, to avoid this problem, make sure that you have a good anti-virus program installed in your computer to avoid inconveniences like this.

2.	Registry errors

Computer technicians usually answer your “why is my computer so slow” query with two words: registry errors. Your registry is like the sketchpad that allows your computer to store all settings that allow your computer to function well. Your computer registry is supposed to reflect the changes that you make in your settings.

An error in your registry could mean your inability to access certain programs and features of your computer because the settings meant to run them are now corrupted. A good registry cleaner and repair program can help you with this problem.

3.	Mismatched drivers

Sometimes, programs cease to run and freeze because their drivers are incompatible or corrupted. Many old or new versions of a program that have drivers that are incompatible with your operating system can cause your computer to slow down and even crash.

Always be careful and make sure that the programs that you get for your computer is compatible with your operating system’s requirements.

There are other reasons as to why your computer’s slowing down, so it is best to have your computer checked and assessed by a professional. You might cause greater and irreparable damage to your computer if you let your computer stay in the condition that it is in.

Errors that appear in a form of a message box that usually contains a code made of numbers and letters are called runtime errors. These codes that these errors contain usually are your clues to where the error is rooted, although not many of us understand them.

Because of this, many of us suffer from slow computing performance and can’t solve these errors.

Runtime errors usually occur because of various computer problems. These problems slow down your computer and cause a variety of issues. Some of the causes of errors include, among others:

viruses

software issues

registry and memory problems

sometimes, even currently running applications.

When a runtime error appears, the computer would most probably display slow computing performance, freeze or worse, hang.

What can you do to address these problems? The usual solution for a runtime error is to usually close the program that causes it. If the program stops responding and is slowing your computer down, you can always force quit it by accessing your task manager. Some may find that restarting their computer would usually fix the problem.

For persistent runtime errors, it is wise to take note of the specific error code of the window and have it addressed by the manufacturer of the program. There are many information in the internet that addresses queries on runtime errors. Some manufacturers would require you to install and download updates on the program.

These updates can prevent future errors and bugs in the program. Other than downloading new versions or patches, one can also opt to uninstall and reinstall the program. Most program installers usually contain a repair function. This function allows the user to pinpoint the source of the problem.
A runtime error caused by viruses can be addressed by getting an effective anti-virus application that would take out the virus.

Some errors caused by hardware and memory issues can be solved by consulting your computer’s manufacturer about your settings.
Slow computing performance can be rooted to the computer’s crowded memory and clogged registry system files, and so it is wise to clean your hard drive periodically using a good registry cleaner. Always back-up your files in case of computer crashes or accidental deletions.

There are quite a few claims around about Internet Explorer, including its high propensity to viruses and malware, inability to adapt to widgets or user-created add-ons, and slow browsing speed. But problems with Internet Explorer are usually easy to solve on its own, so there is no need to install multiple browsers on the computer.

How do I increase functionality of Internet Explorer?

The Internet Explorer version that comes with a brand new computer is, in a sense, not updated. Hence, the user may encounter problems with Internet Explorer in playing back videos or downloading certain files. To enable multiple functions, add-ons such as Java or flash player have to be downloaded for Internet Explorer. These are usually available for free download in their websites.

How can I minimize viruses and malware from Internet Explorer?

Internet Explorer is notorious for causing viruses, worms, or spyware from infiltrating and harming the computer. To solve this issue get a powerful scan-on-run antivirus program. Avoid going to shady unfamiliar sites where hidden malicious content might be waiting. As more and more security options are being created, more and more viruses and malware are also being born. There is really no complete way of preventing this particular problem aside from constant vigilance.

What are ActiveX controls and what happens when it has errors?

ActiveX controls are a loose term for a number of programs that can increase the functionality of Internet Explorer (for example, spell checking or viewing PDF files straight on the browser). Having ActiveX controls on Internet Explorer is very useful, but its serious downside is that viruses and malware can also enter the computer through these controls. People who have default security settings on the their browser may encounter ActiveX errors when they access a site that may need to run with it. As a safety precaution, never select the option for always allowing ActiveX controls to run. Instead, select to run it only on sites that are known and trusted.

Problems with Internet Explorer and ActiveX errors can always be solved with a little tweaking and a little vigilance on Internet practices. Following these guidelines properly will ensure a stress-free experience with Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer is one of the most used browsing programs because of its user friendly interface. But this program is not perfect, as there are some errors that leave users puzzled, crippled and irritated. Internet Explorer errors may be traced to the web or the program itself.

Some Internet Explorer errors include the webpage not loading, pictures appearing as transparent boxes with a red “x” at the upper right hand corner and other webpage elements not loading correctly.These problems are usually caused by a mix of causes from the web and from the program. When the webpage is not loading, it could be that you are not connected to the Internet properly or there are problems with how Internet Explorer connects to the Internet. Check your hardware connections and wires if they are plugged in properly, turned on and working, and check if the settings and options of Internet Explorer are in sync with the settings of your Internet service provider. Another reason for this is that the webpage’s server could be down or the webpage is under construction or in a different address now. It could also be that the webpage is inexistent, so check your spelling and other address details. Internet Explorer can also experience browser plug-in errors. Plug-ins are Internet-based programs that help you view multimedia content that are components of a webpage. If pictures, videos and other elements of the webpage fail to load, there could be problems with your plug-ins. Check if you do have a plug-in installed for a specific type of content. Browser plug-in errors occur when you do not have a plug-in installed or, there is an error in installation. You can prevent browser plug-in errors by checking if your plug-ins are -okay.

Other errors are much complex than the aforementioned problems because they root from the program itself. Such problems occur whenever the program stops working or shuts down by itself. Internet Explorer errors like these can be usually solved by restarting the program or your computer. If the problems cannot be solved like this, you can try reinstalling the program or, by downloading one of the many registry cleaners available online.

	Corrupted registry files are caused by several reasons, more often with software errors than hardware malfunction. Here are some identified common sources of registry files being corrupted:

1.	Power Failure – any unexpected shutdown does not allow Windows to completely “rollback” its date and may cause files to have errors or be lost.

2.	Constant program changes, such as uninstalling and reinstallation, and updating – when a software or program undergoes a lot of changes, it keeps piling information about its settings to the windows registry. The redundant information can cause corrupted registry files because the increased volume can slow down the registry’s tasks, or prevent crucial data from being accessed faster.

3.	Internet activities and downloads – this is the most common cause of registry errors. The web is a treasure trove of easy to download content, and it is also rife with malicious software that can cause harmful changes to the computer, including hardware malfunction.

	If the cause of corrupted registry files is a hardware malfunction, the lost data might be impossible to recover, and reinstallation of the operating system would be in order. Sometimes, registry files can be recovered, through the following means:

1.	Use System Restore and indicate a restore point before the registry error occurred – Windows has the capability of storing compressed data or “scrapbooks” of its settings at various automatic restore points. If the computer can still run at startup, run system restore to return to the computer’s “healthy” state.

2.	Avoid abruptly shutting the computer down – Laptop computers running on batteries will not have problems during unexpected power outages, but if the computer is a desktop, make sure it is connected to an automatic voltage regulator which can stem the abrupt loss of power on the computer.

3.	Install a reliable registry checking software on the computer – this can be very helpful in preventing registry errors even before they can happen. It can detect missing required files and restoring them (or prompting user installation), deleting redundant or unused registry settings, and blocking malicious programs that will attempt to infiltrate the Windows registry.

Sometimes, programs and hardware experience errors and stop working. Some of these errors you may solve by force-quitting the program or restarting your computer, but these are short-term solutions only. You may need to solve the problem at its source to avoid the hassles of repeated force-quitting and restarting.

These problems are usually caused by driver malfunctions and registry malfunctions. Program and hardware problems can be rooted to the errors in the auxiliary programs that help them run properly. These auxiliary programs are called drivers. If there are errors in the driver, then the program or hardware will not function properly too. Sometimes, the programs cease to function well because of registry malfunctions. The registry is responsible for keeping short term data that keeps your computer programs running. If there are short comings in your registry, then your programs will hang, freeze or even cease running. Registry malfunctions and driver malfunctions are what you need to combat to prevent problems from occurring.

If these errors occur, your program or hardware will function slower or even cease working. This is very inconvenient, because you might be in the middle of an important project or activity that needs the program or hardware. What can you do to avoid or fix problems like these?

Driver malfunctions can be addressed by reinstalling your driver. It’s like starting off to a clean slate. Some installers offer repair functions that specifically target the errors that your driver may have without having to delete everything. This takes away the hassle of uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. This way, driver malfunctions can be solved. For programs, you can try reinstalling the software itself. Registry malfunctions can be avoided by frequently doing maintenance work on your PC. Periodically cleaning your registry from unneeded files can avoid these problems. Your registry can accumulate unneeded data from all the programs you have been running. This can create problems, and so constant maintenance is needed to prevent problems like this from occurring. Always remember that prevention is better than the cure, so frequently make ways to do maintenance work on your PC.

Q: My computer cannot shut down anymore. It seems to hang upon shut down and stays in “shutting down” mode forever. What can I do to prevent these computer shutdown problems?

A: Computer shutdown problems are usually caused by running programs which have not been cancelled properly. There are usually some tasks running in the computer that the user has not detected before shutdown. Or, the system is trying to shut down all programs properly, but it takes much longer than necessary because the computer is running on low memory or very old hardware. Increasing RAM size and hard disk sizes are usually solutions which can significantly improve and speed up shutdown time.

If the computer restarts instead of shutting down completely, it is often a sign of system failure. Experts recommend solving this dilemma by unchecking “Automatically Restart” in My Computer> Properties> Advanced> Startup and Recovery> Settings> Failure. A temporary problem such as leaving the PC idle may have caused this, but if restart upon shutdown happens quite frequently, repair of the operating system might be necessary. Computer shutdown problems should not be left unsolved completely because it can lead to more serious hardware or software failure in the future.

Q: I cannot shutdown certain applications properly. What can be causing my application shutdown problems?

A: There are many things which can factor into application shutdown problems, from errors in the operating system, to the application itself, as well as old or not optimized hardware which cause the computer to freeze while performing application shutdown. If the application is performing a big task that uses up a lot of memory, it can cause the application to freeze abruptly. Using the task manager (pressing ctrl+alt+delete) selecting the running application, and clicking “end task” usually resolves the problem. If it does not, the computer has to be restarted. To prevent applications from failing to shut down properly, never open too many applications all at once. Check as well for updates to your application as these updates usually remove bugs or help improve performance. Be concerned if application shutdown problems start happening more frequently. This could be a sign of more serious computer problems.
